Saranac River Trail Fun Run/Walk

President of Friends of Saranac River Trail Jesse Feiler announced, “After many years of planning, development, and construction, it’s great to now to be celebrating 10 years of the Trail.”

We're very proud of our river trail and the work Friends of Saranac River Trail and others have done to bring it to reality,” said City of Plattsburgh Mayor Chris Rosenquest.  “As we look to develop Phase III of the City's portion of the river trail, we're also developing more opportunities for outdoor recreation which includes the many improvements to our parks and green spaces."

Friends of SRT is a grass-roots group formed to develop and promote the tourist, recreational, commercial, historical and natural opportunities of the Saranac River Trail. This group was created more than 10 years ago, and was pivotal in the development and management of the city's portion of the SRT, including the Max Moore Memorial Treehouse, located on Pine Street near the Plattsburgh City Police station. The 1.8 mile trail passes through Downtown, SUNY Campus, Plattsburgh High School, and the new pedestrian bridges across the river at Durkee Street and Saranac Street.

The Tenth Anniversary of the Trail will be marked with a Fun Run/Walk on September 24, 2022. Meet at 9 AM at the foot of Durkee Street.

The 5k run/walk course will begin at the new footbridge at the end of Durkee Street, up to the college on the SRT (behind University Police), and back to the start using the same route. The 5k will be timed by race-timing company Adirondack Coast Events, who has generously donated their services to time the race.  All proceeds raised will go to continuing the interpretive signage, future grant match opportunities and long-term support.
