
Wabi Sabi Photo Trek
Loosely translated as "Seeing beauty in the Imperfect," Wabi Sabi is the theme of the Friends of Saranac River Trail Photo Trek on August 29, 2015. The Trek is led by professional photographers Ron Nolland and Penelope Clute.
- Use your camera as a “seeing-eye” tool - bring your smartphone or other camera on the Photo Trek and use it with new awareness of your surroundings

About Ron Nolland: "With most of my images based in the nature I see around me, I look to find patterns and details in plain sight. I usually find more there than originally meets the eye.” Ron Nolland Ron is a constant exhibitor in Strand Center member shows and Off Site Galleries, and his solo shows are also well received. Regularly selected for juried exhibitions, his work is also featured at Plattsburgh International Airport. A large permanent collection at Inn at Smithfield Best Western is featured in the Conference Room and the hotel lobby. An Adirondack Life Photography Contest Award Winner, Ron also provides custom photography and exclusive pieces for clients.
About Penelope Clute: Penny showed serious interest in photography after graduating from Michigan State University in 1967, when she bought a 35mm camera, and moved from Michigan to her first job in Philadelphia. Taking black and white photos of the people and buildings around her, she learned to use a darkroom. Penny continued “capturing images” after joining VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) in 1968 Chicago. Two of her pho- tographs from that period were published in the book Human Rights – Issues for a New Millennium by Linda Jacobs Altman (Enslow Publish- ers 2002), and another in Knocking on Doors - VISTA Volunteers Re- member 1965-1971 (Harvard Bookstore Press 2010). She has had solo shows in the Clinton County, New York area; and has shown her work in group shows through the Strand Center for the Arts in Plattsburgh and the Adirondack Art Association in Essex, NY. Her work has been accepted into juried shows at the Darkroom Gallery in Essex Junction, VT, The VIC in Paul Smith’s, NY, the Depot Theatre in Westport, NY, the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, NorthWind Fine Arts in Saranac Lake, NY and the Adirondack Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake, NY.
